He'd just texted his best friend, Emma, telling her how much he liked her. He'd never intended for it to be that way; it just... happened.
He sighed again.
Over the past couple of months, he'd been experiencing emotions he thought he'd never experience before. Well, not with something that wasn't food, anyway.
He'd been thinking about her, more often than necessary. Than healthy.
But he couldn't help it; he was in love with her.
His mobile phone rang, penetrating the thoughtful and somewhat agonising silence. Niall stared at it for a long moment, unsure of whether he should pick it up.

The curtains surrounding the bed he was sat on were pulled back with a glistening golden rope that slid across towards the table like a snake. He grabbed the bed rail and stood up.
